Again, just running late with stuff, but if you have to go to a one day home run comic show, then Jet City Comic Show is the big deal down in Tacoma Washington. They moved out of their old digs at the Seattle Center downtown, and moved into a bright shiny beautiful convention center down in Tacoma. The move brought out so many wonderful people there that everyone had a beautiful time with the entire show. It was the simply the best convention that we went to in 2013, and looking forward to going back in 2014.
The Story of Jet City Comic Show is that they want to be a traditional comic show, no hype, and few guest stars that are not actually making content. It is all about the comic books, the artists, the fans for those artists and the things that mean the most to the people who create comics. Brandon Jerwa was there and he is a staple across Red Sonja and other comic books, Justin Zimmerman was there who makes movies and does wonderful comic books like Other Worlds and the Killing Jar.
Bring the kids, enjoy some comics, do the costume contest, and just enjoy the day out celebrating comic books and comic book culture. There are no major sets, no major anything, just a warm intimate wonderful comic book show that represents the best in comics and fandom.
You could even catch Comic Book Characters for Causes, an independent group of people who dress up in spandex and have their picture taken with fans for a donation to the charity of the year. This year was for a summer camp for kids that would otherwise not be able to go to camp because of some form of disability. The year before that was Children’s Hospital here in Seattle.
It is a great show to go to, you can visit their web site right here, but don’t miss out next year, we will be there again, along with a ton of really good people just wanting to have an amazingly good time celebrating comics.
