Things just never seem to go right for the Tarot family at all, and this issue brings some interesting spin to the never ending tragedy that is Tarot Witch of the Black Rose. There are days I think they watch Spanish soap operas to get some of the story lines in this comic book series. Not that this is a bad thing, in some ways the story line is reflective of the never ending battle that evil has to take on against even bigger evil. Evil seems to be a will to power, rather than happy with what it has. This issue really starts looking like everything that is going to go wrong is going to go wrong. And it does, but in so many ways it goes wrong totally awesomely.
Tarot is missing and Raven Hex is captured! The world of magic is a dangerous place and being a Witch of the Dark Path makes you a target. Spells are powerful and sometimes they work, sometimes they work in unexpected ways. Sometimes what you desire, you have to steal from others because they won’t share. And sometimes what you steal will desire your life. As the premise for the story line this makes perfect sense in the world of Tarot. Sometimes the stolen does not want to be taken away, meaning you open up the door to the usual can of whoop ass that happens when Tarot or Raven Hex is part of the program. The interesting part is that we really get to focus on Raven Hex, who started this whole thing in Book 1, and if you have not gotten the remastered Trade Paperback Volume 1, you want it so you can get the story line going back to the front of the book.
As usual, we are fans of this independent comic book line anyways, we are going to rate this one five of five stars. There is the usual action, death, mayhem, and violence rings through the whole story line. I like the twists and turns in this one as it a typical in some ways. Rather than just kicking butt and taking no names, there is some good subtle plotting that happens along the way. Well worth getting and reading, you can order through your local comic book store, or from us directly on EBay. Well worth your time, as always Tarot is a pretty exceptional independent comic book series.
