The Dark Spiral,’ Part 1: ‘The Abandoned Witch Village.’ Ok, now this is starting to make more sense to me. Again, I am reading these backwards so finding that I now have to go back and read 76 and 77 again to see some of the details that I missed or didn’t make much sense. So much for reading a comic book series backwards. As we were researching this title, we noticed that there were a lot of free copies for downloading, so if you would not mind, make sure you purchase a copy, people need to feed their cats. Seriously, don’t pirate this title, it is good enough to own openly in the street, not in a dark corner of the basement where pirates huddle.
Speaking of dark dank basements, Tarot finds herself in an abandoned witch village, and you know things are going to go down hill from here. Because it is all a set up so that the Dark Faierie can kick Tarot’s butt into next week. But before she gets there, there is a Dark Queen that also wants to kick Tarot’s butt into next week if not into issue 78. Tarot really has generated a lot of ill will, and in this issue her downward spiral begins. This also explains a lot of what is happening in issues 77 and 78, so we get a nicely complete story line starting here that drags out into later issues of the comic book. Needless to say this is one of the more active but kicking issues, with just enough story and plot set up to keep the readers happy and informed. Overall very interesting as a story plot, and the village is just creepy, like something out of children of the dammed kind of creepy.
Rating this one five of five stars as usual, again we see all the right plot elements in the right spots, easy to read, easy to follow, and very cool to read. This one though shines a little bit more than other ones do, it looks like more time was spent on giving the whole issue a nice creepy dammed feeling that makes this one stand out a lot in comparison to other issues. We only have a five star rating system here, so really it needs six stars because the art seems to have had more attention paid to it. Remember to pick up a real copy though, it is always sad to see the scanners placing in the top three slots in Google before ever even getting to a legitimate download. While I understand people scan and share, sometimes you really just need to support the artist and buy a copy. Really, you should, they are everywhere online and in real stores.
