Allen Keeg was your average middle age heart broken sap going through the worst break up in his life, after she walked out the door a year ago. Since the break up, Allen has been having trouble getting back into the swing of things unable to get over her. However, all that is about to change. When Allen saves an old woman from being mugged, he is given an amazing supernatural ability that will change his whole life, the gift, or what some may consider the curse of being irresistible to every female that crosses his path.
Now every woman Allen meets cannot get enough of him. Where ever Allen goes he can get any woman he wants with ease. Every woman that is except the girl who broke his heart and he is slowly learning that being adored by every woman he meets isn’t necessarily what it’s cracked up to be. A lesson he is going to learn the hard way when Allen discovers just how extreme women are willing to go to be with him.
After two issues of Irresistible, I am officially hooked. The writer does such an amazing job at creating the bond between reader and Allen that you quickly find yourself honestly invested in his life as if he were a real person, perhaps even a friend of yours going through some crazy times. Just as I predicted in my first review of this series, although much earlier on in the story that I originally thought, we start to see Allen realize that hooking up with all the women in the world will not erase the one he wishes he could be with from his thoughts. Allen is finding out the hard way just like many men before and many after him that lust and love are two very different things and sex does not equal fulfillment if it is not tied other emotions beyond simple lust.
The hints of Leigh starting to miss Allen make you wonder if it is authentic or if perhaps Allen’s new powers are so strong, they can somewhat work through a simple phone conversation. I have a feeling that Allen’s powers may become more of a curse than expected. Just think about what it would be like to think you won over the love of your life, only to realize it is your powers and nothing more. I feel that would be twice as heart breaking then the original break up. I am looking forward to Allen totally understanding what is going on and seeing how this story unfolds.
Halfway though the run I have to say this is becoming one of my favorite love themed comic series. Readers looking for something a bit more emotion packed then your typical crime fighting, zombie killing, save the world style books, should really give this series a go. The writing is such high quality that there have been a couple moments that honestly caused me to tear up a bit. Once again, Zenescope has a winner on their hands with Irresistible.
