All I could really say after reading the second instalment of this series is ‘WOW’. I looked past a lot that happened in the first issue expecting just massive action and insane battles to come but, hell was I wrong. Last issue the twin-brother (Bobby) of our main character, Tommy Watts, seemed to have died within the first few pages. We were then quickly thrown into the aftermath of Bobby’s death and Tommy’s coping.
This issue starts off a little jumpy but, once back in present time things start to come together nicely putting a few things that happened in the previous issue into perspective.
After the government has seen what Tommy is now capable of, they want to see it happen again – they need Tommy to fight. The goal is to further study his power limit due to the fact that he was always analyzed as a 0% power limit. What were these machines and analysts missing in him that is now coming out? In order to do this though, they need to convince Mrs. Watts to get Tommy to fight in the arena as he is very persistent in not doing so, in honour and fear of Bobby’s death.
In a very violating fashion, the government weeds their way into Tommy participating through his mother, which turns out to be quite invaluable because they take her to a facility where she can finally see the remains of her son Bobby. The place where she is also given information that will greatly shape the outcome of these last coming issues and her life.
So far, I’m 100% satisfied with this story. The progression within the first 2 issues is just amazing. They manage to feed you tons of information both old and new of this world, without overwhelming you or forcing a lacking in the action department! Jonathon Ross is doing an incredible job thus far. I don’t think any other artist could have brought this story to paper more enticing and accurately than Bryan Hitch. There really is no describing his art. So I won’t since I couldn’t do it justice if I tried.
Overall, this is proving to be a great new take on super-humans by exploring a fairly untouched perspective on the way world around them may react. Throwing a bunch of super-humans in a ring and letting them go wild – Where’s the harm in that?
5/5 Incredible! Buy it, folks!
