This is a departure for Zenescope, doing a children’s activity book, so of course I have to go take a look at it and see what new things Zenescope is up to. After the rousing success of their Kickstarter program, it is good to see Zenescope branching out and taking a look at other ways of doing cool stuff and staying alive in the market place.
And it is totally awesome.
Five kids stumble into a wizard’s house and mayhem ensues. The good part is that this really is aimed right at kids, and they are going to love it. Not only do we have the kids poking through all the magicians stuff, but one gets turned into a frog, one starts looking like a clown with makeup, and no one escapes unaffected until the magician can come and help set things right again. We also get some very nice adventures with falling down a hole and trying to escape, and the broomstick sequence is very nicely done. Although it does look a lot like quiddich when we get towards the end of the book, but that is just going to suck the kids in who cannot get enough of Harry Potter. It is these little asides that are going to totally make everyone’s day when it comes down to reading this comic book.
The good part is that the comic book also comes in at a healthy 64 pages, full color, and done with the amazingly awesome Zenescope style that can be spotted a few miles away. It is also absolutely age appropriate; there is nothing here that will tweak a parent if you don’t mind a little magic and mayhem in your child’s life.
Zenescope and Silver Dragon Books have an awesome five of five star looking for something for the kids to read as America hits the road comic book. This will keep your kids entertained in the car if they can read in the car without getting motion sick. If not this would make an awesome night time book read around the camp fire while enjoying the great outdoors. Again it is nice to see Zenescope branching out a bit, and this is my first encounter with Silver Dragon Books. This could just end up being a very good line of thought for Zenescope to be following, and it is highly entertaining. We just have to remember to teach our kids to stay out of the wizards house when he has gone out to go visit friends, otherwise awesome mayhem will ensue.
