There is still time to make the Annual Pilgrimage down to Stumptown in Exhibition Hall B at the Oregon Convention Center on Sunday if you can make it. We trotted on down there this weekend and ended up having a blast, signed some contracts to go along with our Project “Comics Forge Presents”, and otherwise enjoy a nice small intimate comic book show.
The nice part is that it is for the most part independents, Prism Comics was there along with ONI, Fantagraphics, and Dark Horse, but gone were the gaudy displays from Emerald City Comic Con or New York Comic Con, rather a couple of tables, some of their best books, and some awesome employees to help people out. Other than that, it was all about independent comic books and the people who make them. In many ways, this really reminded me of Small Press Expo (SPX) in DC, including the awards ceremony, the many isles of real authors making real independent comic books on the back of a zerox machine. Small dollar pamphlets printed just for this show and this show only. Alternatively, the joy in an author faces when you recognize their work and want to purchase more stuff that is awesome.
Nice, really focused on the authors, and an amazingly good show to go to and spend time at. For us it was a lot like Old Home Week, we knew so many people there and it was fun watching people talk, interact, and spending time talking about the industry, who they are, and what they have been working on.
Then there is the super announcement about contracts for our Comics Forge Presents Kickstarter that we will push out as a weekly update and a real Public Relations message amongst our fans and followers. If you have not checked out our Kickstarter project yet feel free to Click Right Here
If you want a good solid comic book show with many independent authors, this is the best one on the West Coast that we have been to yet. Comic Books stripped down to their essentials, a table, an author or two, no curtains, no booth separators, and piles of people coming in to see the latest underground comic books that are on the market. Seriously good show, and very nice to see something like this thriving on the west coast in line with what we saw at SPX.
If you can make it down tomorrow, Sunday April 29th, 2012 then it is worth the trip to spend a few hours in the hall, and soak in the enthusiasm of the authors, the crowds, and the independent market.
