Hit-Girl had led a surprisingly violence free life for most of the series until last issue when she fell into old habits by killing at least two or three bad guys. This issue she’s making up for lost time. It all ends with seven.
To review our story: Last issue the Motherfucker’s gang kidnapped Kick Ass right from his father’s funeral. They managed to set a bomb in his coffin, murder a number of innocent civilians and police guards and stuff Kick Ass into a van where they were already beating him down. He is then rescued by Hit Girl who proceeds to kill all of the bad guys in what I admit are original and creative ways.
To Kick Ass’ credit he takes, once again, the sensible point of view and apparently doesn’t want to enter into a bloody vengeance filled killing spree. But the newly bloodied Hit-Girl will accept no part of his girly man behavior.
They then settle into one of Hit-Girl’s dad’s old safe houses. Now, I like my rampant comic book violence as much as the next guy. And we should consider that the Motherfucker’s gang are bad people, who kill cops, kids and random pedestrians. On a good day they’ll just rape your girlfriend. But do I really need to see this:
True, it’s original in that I haven’t seen too many 12 year old girls summarily execute 7 people, who she had already disabled. I suppose she could have been gallant and called for the police and an ambulance or two but no. I keep on wondering do any of these bad guys have families and will any of them ever urge the DA to file charges against Hit Girl for murder? People tend to stick up for their families even if they’re criminals and even when murdered cinematically.
Well, here’s the setup for the final issue. The Motherfucker’s gang is run pretty much like a paramilitary operation. I honestly can’t figure out the overall goal besides just random mayhem and chaos. Even Kick Ass wonders why the goal is anarchy from a guy who relies on asthma medication. Everything is supposed to end on Times Square where the lead bad guy seems to be thrilled about murdering random people and celebrities. You won’t be surprised when the last scene resembles this famous Marvel cover. I’m trying to imagine if this is the kind of movie I would want to see and even though I liked the parts I’m not sure if I’m thrilled with the whole of this. It seems to go exactly where I thought it would go.
One particular act of evil: Since the cops are patrolling Times Square the Motherfucker’s gang blows up, I think, nine or so comic book stores as a diversionary tactic. Those Bastards!
One prediction: How will Hit Girl kill off giant one eyed Russian hit lady seen above? I imagine she runs her sword through the Russian lady’s no doubt vise like hoo hah until it comes out her remaining eye…Because this is Millarworld and this is how we roll. Three out of five stars. I find myself disturbed by that summary execution scene.
