I have an angel on my shoulder and a devil in my head is a song by Kascade that pretty much so sums up this comic quite well. Being a Zero issue, we don’t really learn much about the story, rather we are following a rather uncertain teenager buying a candy bar, walking his girlfriend home, having an encounter with bullies, and meeting the girlfriends father and saying hello. All the time surrounded by the angel on his shoulder that tells him to remain good and simple, while the devil in the head is asking for vengeance, anger, violence, and size 12 concrete shoes. Rather interesting, and rather true to life, we all want to be nice to those that make our lives happy, and we all want to slaughter those thugs who make our lives miserable. This comic book really helps set the stage for issue 1 by giving the human perspective on the story line which really revolves around the song “An Angel on my shoulder and a Devil in my Head”.
It is really kind of cool that sometimes you can develop a sound track to a comic book, and one that seems appropriate for the comic book. This is a very short issue, that essentially is just an introduction to the characters, but this one mostly focuses on the human elements, and is very introductory. The only insight that you are dealing with the whole idea of mutant devils is the cut overs or slight insights that he is not really dealing with reality.
Overall because the comic book is so short and so introductory in a perfunctory way, you end up wanting to read more, which lead me right to issue one where you get a lot more of the back store and learn what is really happening in the story line. Overall it is a good comic book, with some amazingly awesome potential. I am dying to see issue two, and hoping that I can pick this up in print somewhere because it is worthy enough to be part of my own physical collection.
Rating this one 5 of 5 stars, good story line, was able to make it into a sound track using Kascade, awesome drawing, good easy to read lettering, and overall good enough to want me to read issue one. This one is worth picking up and adding to your physical comic book collection.
