Edgar Dill is a sought after deformed serial killer in a city whose deputy will take any measures necessary to take him down – even more so now that his daughter has been abducted as the mad-man’s next victim. Bunches of police cruisers surround the Dill household. Upon entry Edgar’s bat-shit crazy mother jumps forth in his defence and warns him of their presence allowing him time for an escape. This doesn’t work out on their behalf though when Edgar, out of shock, let’s his victim loose; only realizing his mistake once she spills his guts. Ms. Dill is killed on site by police and Edgar is left to bleed out and suffer for his wrongs against humanity.
When searched, the Dill house proves to hold many horrific sites including the corpses of women who have been circumcised of breasts and vagina, inside of suits made of wood and hung as if they were dolls to be collected. In order to protect citizens of the city and future victims the scene is burned and never spoken of again. That is until Edgar, his mother, and the corpses of his past victims return from their graves with knives in their hands and vengeance in their eyes.
It is 30 years later and the man behind locating and killing Edgar is retiring from the police force. Both he and his daughter begin suffering from hallucinations of him and dream of his face nightly. It isn’t until he finds the corpse of Pam, one of Edgar’s past victims, laying next to the highway that he believes Edgar has somehow returned and he is watching them – a reality he blames on God as a form of punishment for their brutal killing of the serial killer.
Meanwhile, only two miles ahead of the deputy, two cars collide leaving a female passenger badly injured. In a search for refuge from an impending storm, the group of them come across a wooden house deep in the woods – a typical house of which when you enter you never leave – the Dill residence.
Much like any slasher movie/comic you read, when killed, the murderer always come back 10 times more bad ass and crazy. This issue, however typical, holds some deeply disturbing imagery and mental components involving Edgar. The suits the victim’s are placed in alone are enough to give any woman nightmares – within the wooden planks and circumcised doesn’t sound like a good day in my terms.
Mark Kidwell steals the show with this one, presenting both the art and the story in an entertaining and shocking fashion. He took an old plot and made it into a new and terrifying experience that, thus far, has me hooked. I am looking forward to continuing this series and discovering what grisly horrors Kidwell has in store for his readers. Priced for free at Graphic.ly and the beginning of a seemingly great story – in my opinion, everyone over 18 should be enjoying Bump.
