Issue #6 of 30 Days of Night: Bloodsucker Tales finds Billy strapped to an operating table as the insane Dr. Saxon is about to run a series of grueling experiments on him as Goodis and a couple of his friends close in on his location. Meanwhile back in Juarez, Mexico Lex Nova finds himself locked in a jail cell battered and bruised from the severe beating he received as a gift from the local police department. However, before he has a chance to get his self together Bingo shows up in his usual nasty mood.
This issue features some of my favorite panels from the “Dead Billy Dead” story arc from the standpoint of a long time gore hound that likes his horror covered in blood and entrails. The panels between Dr. Saxon and Billy being experimented on also gave me flash backs to my all time favorite zombie film Return of The Living Dead and the infamous scene where they strap a zombie to a table and interrogate it. In all reality if we would discover that vampires were real you know the first thing that someone would want to do is capture one, experiment on it, dissect it and see what makes it tick. I love how 30 Days of Night always manage to keep things realistic and grounded in reality it always creates more emotional story when it is relatable and plausible in the readers mind.
“Juarez” on the other hand is more visually driven to me then story driven like its counter part “Dead Billy Dead”. Don’t get me wrong I enjoy the story and have mentioned before love the Zero Family Circus but as I read each panel of this story I find it’s the art style and visuals that keep me enthralled and moving forward more so than the story itself where as with “Dead Billy Dead” its more so the solid storytelling. The story “Juarez” has a grindhouse feel to it which I really dig I think this is another big reason I would like to see it portrayed in film with the right director it could be a really unique vampire experience something movie goers are in dire need of thanks to everyone trying to clone the success of Twilight.
