Political Power Ronald Reagan is a very interested method of telling the story behind the man, it begins when his childhood and takes us all the way up to his death in 2004. I found this to be a very effective and entertaining way of informing a reader about the intriguing life of Ronald Reagan.
From his days of being a sport announcer calling baseball games, through his time spent on the silver screen, and all the way up to his reign as president and beyond this comic does a wonderful job at teaching history in a never boring fashion. The use of comic books as a learning tool has always interested me and I believe it could be a very successful means to make the learning process more interesting especially to younger students. Combining text with imagery makes the content so much more stimulating all the while making it fun to learn as well.
Political Power Ronald Reagan is a perfect blend of narration and retellings of important segments of the president’s life retold in traditional comic book format. The art style is beautiful and explodes from the page with the backing of vibrate and eye catching colors. The cartoon art style fits perfect with the feel of the comic to the point of making me view it in my head as if it was a motion comic.
Story wise the comic moves at a steady pace and does a great job at touching on both the most important aspects of Reagan’s life but also some of the most fascinating tidbits of his life that some may be unfamiliar with. The comic appears to of been written by a ultra patriotic Republican supporter with a high level of bias so be warned if you are a person who has a different picture of the late president and his time in office. The only thing I would of liked to of seen in the pages of this comic that was not included would have been his role in the war on drugs a product of Reagan’s presidency that is still effecting the country in mostly negative ways.
Overall, I found this comic book to be an intriguing change of pace from superheroes and monsters and would love to read some other books of this nature. I wish it would of been a graphic novel length retelling of the presidents life but the writer does a great job at squeezing in as much as he was able to in the pages he was given to work with. If you are a fan of Ronald Reagan and comics this is a no brainer to ad to your collection, for those who do not share such a positive view on the ex president the comic is still a very entertaining read. I never imagined that a comic book would be such an effective means of delivering a person’s biography but it works and very well at that.
