Who would even think of remaking the Wizard of Oz, and why is there a serial killer stalking the set? Is Cassie and Vlad finally going to solve some of their combined issues, and what about Georgia? Will Cassie and Georgia finally hook up in a relationship that is going to piss off the religious right? We get that all and more in this fun romp through the Hack Slash universe when it was still leased by Devils Due Publishing. This is just a fun comic book and the sexual tension is rocking all the way through this issue, we even get a chaste kiss between Cassie and Georgia at the end. Although the fan fiction that is rife on the internet has them doing a lot more than kissing in the final tally of art that surrounds this comic.
Georgia is on the set of a film crew that is remaking the Wizard of Oz, but of course, there has to be a murder on the set that looks like it is the work of a slasher. Georgia gets into a tight situation where she is about to be killed herself when Cassie and Vlad show up to save the day. The tension around this scene is very well done, you really think that they are going to kill off a major character in the series, but she is saved with Cassie getting annoyed that Georgia will put herself in danger. This is where we start thinking that there is going to be a major hookup with Cassie and Georgia, but it is only what could be termed a simple kiss, no passion, although your mind will be thinking it is going to be so much more. Seriously, those two should just hook up and call it good, Vlad will not mind at all.
There are two other side stories in this issue, the not so happy Muffy Jaworksi makes a pop in to a police station to say that Classie and Vlad are really the murders and they should be stopped. Not too sure how that works out though, this really could have left out and nothing would have been lost. Then we get a nice preview of what is coming next when Cassie’s father meets Dr. Herbert West, the reanimator in the basement of a head shop. That meeting is fateful knowing what happens in just a few more issues later on in the series. There is a three part series featuring Cassie, Vlad, and Dr. Herbert West that is about awesome.
This is a well done comic book, and Tim Seely did an awesome job with the writing, Emily with the drawing, and Val with the colors. I need to know where to find that color of green for evil potions. This is probably Devils Due Publishing (DDP) at its height, and we hope that Image does as good or better with Hack Slash now that they have the franchise. Sadly DDP lost the franchise, but with Image now owning some of the coolest horror characters out there, we might get very lucky with some of the stuff that will be coming.
