Issue #6 is a very important issue for me because it wraps up all the previous ones I have reviewed as of late. We are started off with a fight between Calie and her brother Johnny that ends in a most gruesome manner. This is followed up by my favorite segment of the issue a series of events that lead the reader into the main story arch of the other Wonderland series by Zenescope Escape From Wonderland.
The backstory that leads you into the Escape From Wonderland run is very interesting and really did a good job at summing up these past issues, which I appreciated greatly as a newbie to the series. The writing once again was top of the line and moves the story along at a steady and never boring pace. The horror aspects of this series are extremely prevalent in this issue and have made me into a big fan of Zenescope’s Grimm Fairy Tale franchise. Getting to see how Johnny managed to get his hands on Calie’s baby forcing her to return to Wonderland in Escape From Wonderland was a truly memorable moment for me as someone who is just recently falling in love with this comic.
Oh my gore! Once again, we are presented with a smorgasbord of blood and gore served with a dash of the good old ultra violence for good measure. It blows me away how well the artists are able to create such lifelike textures and horror film worthy levels of gore this series is always pleasing from a horror fans perspective. I would highly recommend this series to anyone who has wanted to see a truly dark and adult take on the Alice in Wonderland world.
Issue #6 was a fun and eventful issue to say the least and so far has to be my favorite of the ones I have personally sat down and read. If you have had doubts about this series or the Grimm Fairy Tales franchise from Zenescope in general put them aside for a moment and give this intriguing and entertaining series a honest go and I believe there is a very high chance you’ll be adding this and similar Grimm Fairy Tale runs to your pull list as well.
