To bring a conclusion to my marathon reading session of Secret Skull I just finished issue #4 the final issue of its four part run. In this issue it is up to Secret Skull to face her final targets in hopes of setting her very soul free and allowing her to finally rest in peace. Epic battles and a very emotional ending bring the series to a close and leaves this fan wishing on every shooting star I see that it is not the true end of the franchise.
Once again we are treated to spectacular cover, once again mostly basic white forcing what little color and imagery that is present to pop off of the page at any potential readers. Inside the pages of this issue we are once again given some beautiful scenes of gore as Secret Skull dismantles enemies in the only fashion she knows how to brutal and ultra violent.
The story moves to a conclusion at a perfect pace once again, giving us a bit more information on the ghouls and also the man who is out to harm her father Secret Skull is a well written and beautifully illustrated series that should be experienced at least once by every comic fan looking for a new anti hero obsess over. Fans of The Crow will rejoice even further after finishing this issue that features some very similar scenes that may very well of been nods to the series, I would be curious to know if the writers of this comic were fans of James O’ Barr and perhaps gained some influence from his most famous character Eric Draven. If you find yourself craving a vigilante tale with an undead anti hero as the main focus and have already consumed all The Crow related media that is out there, Secret Skull may very well be exactly what you have been searching for.
Fans of horror, crime, and superheroes alike can all find something to grab onto when it comes to the story arch and style presented by Secret Skull, if you find yourself in need of something new and interesting to read look no further than Secret Skull.
In closing I really hope that this series gets looked at again down the line, I know that the last issue was published back in 2004 but I really believe if marketed correctly this could be a big hit among teen and adult readers alike. With the gothic sub-culture becoming bigger and bigger in small towns and big cities alike there are a lot of fans craving a darker superhero to latch onto and Secret Skull would perfectly fit that role.
