Continuing my Secret Skull marathon I have just finished issue #3, in this issue we are give more information on the creatures known as “Ghouls”, what they are and why they are so concerned about the actions of the Secret Skull. Ghouls, are a strange blend of zombies and in some cases vampires that seem to need blood in order to stay tethered to realm of the living and similar to vampire lore have an dislike for the sun but instead of turning them into ashes it simply makes these ghouls move slower.
When Secret Skull is confronted by her knew kin of sorts she is given more information on what she is becoming and how exactly it happened, and on top of things discovers she is not like the others before her but she is special in some way. The turn the story arch takes in issue #3 only further gives me flash backs of when I first fell in love with The Crow franchise and read the first run of the series back to back in one sitting. The writing presented in the pages of Secret Skull is exactly the level I have been searching for when it comes to a brand new gritty street crime and vigilante justice genre book to start following. Each issue moves the story along at a perfect pace for a comic series and it’s to be continued point is always inserted perfectly at a time that leaves you wanting more but at the same time does not make you feel unsatisfied like you should have got more story for your buck.
The cover of issue #3 has to be my favorite yet, the mostly white cover really causes the vivid red blood splatter explode off of the page, I know if I saw this comic in the wild I would have to pick it up and thumb through it out of sheer curiosity. This issue of Secret Skull is once again bloodier than the last continues to raise the bar of brutality used by Secret Skull to dispose of those who mean the innocent harm, carrying over from where we last left off the man who intends to kill her father.
I cannot emphasize enough how much I believe fans of The Crow will utterly fall in love with the Secret Skull franchise if it is given a chance. It has been some time since a comic series has hooked me to the degree that Secret Skull has this is one comic series that deserves to become a house hold name among fans of the genre.
