In issue #2 of Scorn, Michael now finds himself labeled as a fugitive wanted for murder and hiding out with his new friend Sammi, a caring woman of the night who gives him a place to stay after saving her from Torres’s men in the first issue.
Issue #2 of Scorn is further displays the writing ability of Kevin Moyers, the way his issues moves the story along is done so at a perfect pace and you are given a lot of new information to work with in this follow up issue. A problem I have with a good chunk of comics these days are they give you so little in the realm of main story arch material, but with Scorn with beyond doubt get your monies worth.
I really enjoyed the sneak peek into Michael’s childhood with the introduction of his father into the story; I felt this really added to the somber feeling created by the thought of losing your best friend and honestly having no one else in the world to lean on. By showing just how bleak Michael must believe his life will be from this point on with the lost of his friend you get more of a sense of justification for the things he is now doing to in his mind set things right, an eye for an eye if you will. Also we get a another glimpse at the heart made of gold side of Michael with the way he reacts when Sammi ends up getting roughed up by a customer and how it casues him to go off the hinges with anger. Kevin Moyer’s writing does a flawless job at creating a very human like character that is filled to the brim with authentic human emotions a feat that is sometimes hard to pull off in the confines of a single issue of a comic.
The art in issue #2 while still the same style did a lot better job of not becoming jumbled up and hard to decipher and is quickly growing on me more and more each time I open up an issue of Scorn. I really like the way bright red blood spray pops out from the page on top of the bleak and depressing color scheme the comic uses to paint its sad and emotional tone.
After reading the first two issues of Scorn, I find myself dying to find out what happens next and to experience the conclusion of Michaels hunt for Torres, if these first two issues can’t sell you on this series than I do not know what else to say to you. If you are a fan of revenge or vigilante stories I don’t see how you can possible go wrong with this one, a fun emotion packed ride that I hope to return to very soon.
