The only problem I really have with the 30 Days of Night: Bloodsucker Tales is the fact you only get six or seven pages of story each issue. The rest of the space is used for another random short comic followed by letters and such. Six or seven pages of story at a time seem like the ultimate way to force their readers into a never ending money pit. The comic itself is very high quality and is very entertaining but it really needs more content per issue, by the time I had just got sold on the comic it was over.
The art style of 30 Days of Night: Bloodsucker Tales is beautiful, highly stylized, dark and gloomy colors paint the picture of a world of bloodsuckers flawlessly. I was never a fan of the films, but I do really enjoy the visuals and writing of the comic series, I just wish I could get more than seven pages worth of plot per issue four bucks for five minutes of entertainment seems steep to me personally.
The comics unlike the films have almost a Vampire the Masquerade feel to them, cesspool inner cities crawling with humans and bloodsuckers. The comics paint a very urban and rough picture fans of the vampire genre who do not want their fang bearers to sparkle and play hard to get will have a lot of fun with 30 Days of Night. For fans of the films, they are really an entirely different entity away from the film franchise but you may very well enjoy the comics as well.
Issue #4 starts with a simple phone call a mysterious voice on the other line needing a fix of blood but does not wish to kill for it. Vampires who do not want to harm others treating the red crimson liquid like a drug going through various scenarios much like a heroin junkie would just to score their medicine, a perfect way to lure you into a vampire world.
In issue #4 the comic that comes after the 30 Days of Night: Bloodsucker Tales is called Juarez or Lex Nova & The Case of the Four Hundred Dead Mexican Girls which in itself is a really fun read. My only problem once again is this comic is longer than the 30 Days of Night material included in the issue. It’s cool that you get a bonus comic within each issue but when it is longer than the story you originally bought an issue for something is wrong.
